Clinical
Supervision
Clinical supervision plays a key role in the ongoing growth and development of mental health professionals — whether you're working toward full credentialing, completing your training, or already practicing and looking to deepen your skills. Being a mental health clinician is deeply rewarding, but it can also come with challenges. Thoughtful supervision, whether on an ongoing basis or as needed, can help prevent burnout and reduce the impact of secondary trauma. It also supports skill development, encourages safe and effective use of self in the therapeutic space, and ultimately helps improve outcomes for the people we serve.

About Clinical Supervision with Kate Wong

As a therapist, Kate Wong is influenced by narrative therapy, attachment theory, family systems theory, and cognitive-behavioural ideas. She has worked in various children's mental health agencies, adult addictions services, and private practice settings throughout the GTA. Most of her current practice includes working with children / young adult with mental health and family issues.

As a supervisor, Kate works to build upon the current strengths and life-experience of supervisees as they work towards the clinician they aspire to be. She believes that therapy and supervision are both clinical and reflective. Clinical supervision involves consulting about cases, discussion about formulation and treatment directions, and documentation / evaluation. Reflective supervision supports safe and effective use of self by exploring the transactions between the therapist and client as well as the therapist and supervisor.

Her posture in supervision is one of collaboration, respect, openness, and transparency. She strives to create a supervisory environment and relationship that feels safe-enough for the supervisee to address difficult questions or issues that arise in their work.

Kate is an approved Yorkville University supervisor and has completed the requirements outlined by the CRPO to provide clinical supervision.
